Shortfalls in mastery of mathematics became even more amplified due to learning loss resulting from pandemic-laden instructional cycles. Lamar University and Region 5 ESC are excited to offer a FREE 2-day summer institute for mathematics teachers of Grades 6 - Algebra 1 to provide them with the tools and strategies needed to lead their students toward mastery in mathematics -- and beyond. In this two-day institute, teachers will explore effective instructional strategies including igniting conceptual understanding, utilizing technology, and promoting productive struggle/growth mindset in students. Teachers will also analyze the vertical alignment and specificity of mathematics student expectations that students are not mastering on STAAR.
Through generous funding made available by AT&T, participating teachers will be eligible for a $300 stipend and additional supporting materials upon completion of both days of training.
Dates of Summer Institute are June 13, 2022 and July 11, 2022.
After completion of BOTH DAYS of training, participants will receive:
- $300 STIPEND
- Classroom set of manipulatives used in training
- Individual License for TI-SmartView
Training will be delivered by Stormy Thibodeaux of Lamar University/Barbers Hill ISD, Janna Smith of Region 5 ESC, Marco Gonzales of Texas Instruments, and Bea Moore Luchin of Luchin Consulting.
