When students are not able to communicate effectively, there are broad implications for all aspects of life. A lack of communication can lead to limited academic success. A lack of communication can lead to limited social relationships. A lack of communication can lead to the presence of challenging behaviors. It only makes sense that when a student is not able to communicate that they are tired or need a drink, they might act out in ways to communicate that message through certain behaviors.
When children have opportunities to develop an effective means of communication throughout their day, the impact on academic, social and behavioral outcomes may be significantly positive. Participants will leave with a variety of communication tools including, but not limited to, choice boards, feelings charts, I need help cards, I need a break cards, core vocabulary boards and more!
What we sometimes see as a failure to behave properly is actually a failure to communicate effectively. All behavior is communication! Every student should be empowered to have a voice to have better behavior and a better life.
