Managing Food Allergies in a Changing School Environment with New Emerging Laws & Treatment

This workshop will describe the most current up-to-date management of food allergy in school settings. Training will focus on the potential risk of cross-contamination of foods in the classrooms and cafeteria, treatment of allergic reactions and the risks of anaphylaxis in children allergic to food allergies.

Nurses, teachers, administrators and school staff who attend will develop an increased knowledge of how to recognize anaphylaxis and the early signs of an allergic reaction, which will lead to parent satisfaction with the competency of the school to provide care for their child in the event of an allergic reaction, and increased safety of food-allergic children in the school environment. The optimal way for the implementation of an unassigned (stock) injectable epinephrine policy will be discussed along with the legal protection afforded to schools that have a policy in place. New treatments for peanut allergy will also be covered and all questions will be answered in a very interactive forum.  We look forward to seeing you there!

This workshop will be led by Dr. Carla Davis, Program Director of the TCH Food Allergy Program and Chair of the Stock Epinephrine Committee of the Texas Department of State Health Services.
